FAQ

What is HTV

Heat Transfer Vinyl (HTV) is a specialized material used for decorating garments and other fabric items. It consists of a polyurethane film with a heat-activated adhesive backing, allowing it to bond permanently to fabrics when heat is applied through a heat press or iron.

What is HTV?
HTV is designed to be cut into various shapes and designs using a vinyl cutter. Once cut, the excess vinyl is removed (a process known as weeding), and the remaining design is placed on the fabric. When heat and pressure are applied, the adhesive activates, securing the design to the garment permanently.

Key Features of HTV:
  • Customization: HTV allows for a wide range of colors and finishes, including glitter, metallics, and flocked textures.
  • Durability: Once applied correctly, HTV is known for its long-lasting quality and resistance to wear and tear.
  • Versatility: It can be used on various fabrics such as cotton, polyester, blends, and even leather.
Application Process
  • Design Creation: Use design software to create your artwork.
  • Cutting: Load the HTV into a vinyl cutter with the shiny side down (the carrier side) and cut the design.
  • Weeding: Remove excess vinyl from around the design.
  • Heating: Preheat the fabric where you will apply the design.
  • Pressing: Place the HTV on the fabric, cover it with parchment paper, and apply heat using a heat press for about 10-15 seconds.
  • Peeling: Depending on the type of HTV, peel off the carrier sheet either hot, warm, or cold.
Types of HTV
  • Different types of HTV are available depending on the application:
  • Everyday Apparel: Lightweight options suitable for casual wear.
  • Stretch & Rebound: Designed for activewear that requires flexibility.
  • Specialty HTVs: Such as those that block dye from sublimated fabrics or offer a 3D effect.
HTV has become increasingly popular among crafters and small businesses due to its ease of use and ability to create high-quality custom designs efficiently.

What is Self-Adhesive Vinyl

Self-Adhesive Vinyl (SAV) is a versatile material commonly used in crafting, signage, and various DIY projects. It consists of a vinyl film that has an adhesive backing, allowing it to stick to surfaces without the need for additional glue or heat application.

Key Features of Self-Adhesive Vinyl (SAV)
  • Easy Application: SAV can be easily cut into shapes and designs using a vinyl cutter or scissors. Once cut, the backing can be peeled off, and the vinyl can be applied directly to clean surfaces.
  • Variety of Finishes: It comes in multiple colors and finishes, including matte, glossy, metallic, and even textured options, making it suitable for various aesthetic preferences.
  • Durability: When applied correctly, SAV is resistant to water and UV light, making it ideal for both indoor and outdoor use.
  • Removability: Depending on the type of adhesive used, some self-adhesive vinyls can be removed without leaving residue, while others are designed for permanent applications.

Common Uses
  • Signage: Ideal for creating custom signs for businesses or events.
  • Home Décor: Used for wall decals, furniture decoration, and other home projects.
  • Craft Projects: Popular among crafters for scrapbooking, card making, and personalized gifts.
  • Labeling: Effective for organizing items with custom labels.

Application Process
  • Design Creation: Use design software to create your desired shape or text.
  • Cutting: Cut the design from the self-adhesive vinyl using a cutting machine.
  • Weeding: Remove excess vinyl around the design.
  • Application: Peel off the backing and apply the vinyl to the desired surface, smoothing out any air bubbles.

Self-Adhesive Vinyl is favored for its ease of use and flexibility in various applications, making it a popular choice among hobbyists and professionals alike.
